I rarely have the time or patience to make true baked beans from scratch, or make my Grammie’s family famous actual baked beans. That’s why I usually whip up these Crock Pot Baked Beans, satisfy the masses & call it a day!
Does it matter what type of beans you use?
Hell yeah, it does! Bush’s Baked Beans, or bust, buddy 🤷♀️
(Check out the recipe notes below the recipe card for more info about what flavor(s) I like to use!)
Growing up, my dad always had a stockpile of Bush’s Baked Beans waiting in the pantry. Beans are always a necessary staple in Midwestern BBQ culture – and you can’t have pork steaks without beans & some type of potato.
It’s considered sacrilegious, & for good reason. Beans are the glue that holds the BBQ plate together – & a timeless staple on the BBQ menu.
Alright, enough talk. Let’s make some beans!
Easy Crock Pot Baked Beans
Equipment
- Crock Pot / Slow Cooker
Ingredients
- 3 Cans Baked Beans 28 oz.
- 1 Sweet Onion, Diced
- 4-6 slices Bacon, cooked Sliced into bite-size pieces
- ½ cup Brown Sugar +1 tbsp if you want it sweeter
- ¼ cup Mustard
- ¼ cup Ketchup
- 2 tbsp BBQ Sauce
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tbsp Minced Garlic
- Salt To Taste
- Pepper To Taste
Instructions
- Place crock pot liner in crock pot, and turn setting on to High.
- Pour all 3 cans of Baked Beans into the crock pot.
- Combine the rest of your ingredients in the crock pot with your beans, and mix well.
- Cover with lid & let cook for 3½ – 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
- When done, serve with your favorite BBQ dish! (But be careful – those beans will likely be FIRE hot temperature-wise)
Recipe Notes
The Beans
- I always use Bush’s Baked Beans, but sometimes I do switch up the flavors. Original is great, but so are the Country Style, Homestyle, Maple & Cured Bacon, and the Brown Sugar Hickory flavors.
- If you’re not sure what flavor you’re going to like most, start with Original or Homestyle. You can’t go wrong with those!
Onion
- I prefer sweet onions, but you can use white or yellow if you’d like.
Bacon
- I just used the thick cut bacon from Aldi in mine, but you can use whatever you’d like!
BBQ Sauce
- I used Sweet Baby Ray’s Original BBQ Sauce. Need some? Check out this Sweet Baby Ray’s Variety Pack on Amazon!
What Crock Pot to Use
- I surprisingly fit all 3 cans of the baked beans & all the ingredients in one of my smaller crock pots (4 Quarts). But if you’re in the market for a new crock pot, this one on Amazon has been VERY popular lately. At 8 Quarts and with a programmable digital countdown timer, you can’t go wrong with this one.
How Long to Cook
- At least 3 hours on High to really bring out the flavor. 3 and a half to 4 hours is the sweet spot with my crock pot, but if you need to pull them sooner – well, you do you!
