Essential Oils have been around awhile, and there are a lot of imitators in the essential game. But there is only one company that I trust because of their superior quality standards – and that is Young Living.
You’ve likely seen advertisements from Young Living, or heard about them from a friend. Maybe you know a thing or two about it. Or, you’re an “oiler” & you use Young Living (YL) oils yourself. I’ve watched this company evolve so much over the past 15-20 years, developing great new product lines & growing to meet the needs of their customers and brand partners.
It seems that they come out with something new every few months that intrigues me or that I find useful in my own home. If you’re wondering how this applies to you, I’ve compiled a handy list of essential oils that I use regularly myself.
Whether you’re just getting started, or you’re an experienced oiler, keep reading for some useful ways to use Young Living essential oils in your own home!
First Off – What Is Young Living?
Per their website, “Young Living is the World Leader in Essential Oils®.” D. Gary Young and his wife, Mary Young discovered the power and importance of essential oils in the early 1990’s, and founded their small organic herb distilling business in 1994 as a response to the need for pure, organic quality essential oils.
Since then, their operations have grown far beyond their Lehi, Utah headquarters – Young Living now has offices and farms around the world, cultivating fine quality organic herbs and ingredients for their essential oils and essential oils infused products.
Their Mission Statement tells you exactly what Young Living is all about:
Vision: “A healthy home for each of us, a healthy world for all of us.”
Mission: “We enhance and empower lives around the world by sharing the unique benefits of nature’s living energy–essential oils.”
Purpose: “To empower the world with nature’s living energy.”
Why Young Living Essential Oils?
Truthfully, not all essential oils companies are equal. If you bought your EO off of a store shelf, it likely has some nasty added ingredients.
Furthermore, there are several well-known companies who say they’re “naturally sourced.” They often claim to be cheaper to snag your attention, and say the have the same quality. But if you do your research and you’ll find these other companies don’t even come close to Young Living’s quality standards.
It’s all about the Sourcing, Science, & Standards – see the Young Living Difference below!
How to Safely Use Essential Oils
Whether you’re an experienced Oiler, or a newbie to Young Living and / or EO’s (essential oils), it’s always good to brush up on oils safety.
I get this question a lot: “If essential oils are natural, why do I need to be concerned with safety?”
Think about it this way: If you’re going to eat a lemon, you know either from education or from unfortunate personal experience that it’s generally a bad idea to get the lemon juice in a cut, or to squirt it in your eye, right?
Right.
If you eat way too much of something that is “good for you,” are you likely to get an upset stomach?
You betcha. I think you understand what I’m getting at here 🙂
OILS SAFETY DISCLAIMER: Please review this page thoroughly before you open an essential oil bottle, or use Young Living products. This will tell you a about how to safely use essential oils & essential oils infused products topically, aromatically, and internally (ingested) in a wide variety of ways.
Yes, it’s a longer read (keep reading & scrolling that page til you hit the bottom), but there is so much great information there.
How to Use a Diffuser for Essential Oils
Before we dive into the list, let’s talk about what a diffuser is and how to use it. Per YL: “(A diffuser is) a way to disperse the fragrance of essential oils into the air so that you can inhale the calming scent of Lavender Essential Oil or the clean refreshing scent of Lemon Essential Oil in your kitchen or bathroom.”
While you should definitely read the instructions booklet prior to using your diffuser, I’ll give you a Cliffsnotes step by step list for using your diffuser:
- Add room temperature distilled water to the reservoir to the designated water level.
- Add several drops of the oil(s) you want to diffuse, & place the reservoir lid(s) back on the diffuser.
- Press the power button.
- Voila! You’re diffusing 🙂
A helpful tip:
- Be sure to keep the diffuser on a level surface & away from heat. And again, always thoroughly read the instruction manual that comes with your diffuser for operating & care instructions
If you don’t have a diffuser yet, no worries. Click here to view all the different diffusers available
To start out, I’d recommend either the Dewdrop or the Desert Mist diffuser – I have several of both!
Now that you know a little more about Young Living, let’s dive into 20 Essential Oils for a Healthier Home to help support a healthier lifestyle:
NOTE: This list is not all-encompassing. These are just some of my favorites that I use on a regular basis. There are so many great oils with a wide variety of uses from Young Living – not to mention, all of the great products they offer as well (which I will be getting into in other posts).
1. Thieves Essential Oil
Thieves is a very versatile oil, and a must-have in your home! This blend is used in a number of Young Living products, including cleaning products, dish soaps, toothpastes, & more. Thieves comes either in a normal bottle, or as a roll-on. It’s also a great one to diffuse in the fall & winter!
Young Living’s Description: “This powerful formula may help support healthy immune function and contribute to overall wellness when taken as a dietary supplement.*”
2. Lemon Essential Oil
Another oil with a wide range of uses – Lemon Essential Oil is one I always have a stockpile of. From cleaning, cooking, or adding a tart splash of flavor to my water, with Lemon Vitality Oil, I go through a lot of Lemon!
Young Living’s Description: “Lemon essential oil has a fresh, uplifting aroma that cleanses the air and eliminates odors when used aromatically. Taken internally, it provides immune and circulatory support and can be used to add a fresh flavor to food and beverages.*”
Lemon Oil does a great job of banishing unpleasant smells – in our household, Lemon Oil is always on hand after cleaning fish. Just a couple drops when washing your hands is all you need!
3. R.C. Essential Oil
I use R.C. Oil every single day! (Or I guess I should say, I use it every night). Every night at bed time, I diffuse R.C. oil as I’m going to sleep for respiratory support. It definitely does “provide a refreshing breathing experience” (see description below 😉 )
Young Living’s Description: “R.C.™ essential oil blend is a powerful combination of Cypress, Spruce, and three types of Eucalyptus oils (E. citriodora, E. globulus, and E. radiata). The initials stand for respiratory care, as this oil may provide a refreshing breathing experience.”
4. Valor Essential Oil
Valor Oil helped me through a lot in the past 15 years or so. Just smelling Valor Oil for about 30 seconds to a minute prior to big events seems to set me at ease. From my senior voice recital in college, to every post-grad job interview, and even my wedding day – Valor Oil has been a staple in my arsenal. I have it both in the regular and the roll-on versions, & I wouldn’t go a day without it!
Young Living’s Description: “Valor® essential oil features Frankincense, Black Spruce, Blue Tansy, Camphor Wood, and Geranium and was formulated based on historical writings about Roman soldiers who were said to apply plant extracts and botanticals to instill feelings of courage and confidence before going into battle.”
5. Citronella Essential Oil
Citronella is a MUST in the summertime months! If you’re like me and think that all bugs should go back to hell where they came from, this one is for you. I like to refer to it as s natural Bug Be Gone.
Young Living’s Description: “Citronella essential oil contains geraniol, which helps to fend off outdoor nuisances so you can enjoy the outdoors annoyance free.*”
6. Purification Essential Oil
Another one I use regularly when cleaning my house: Purification Oil! Purification Oil is great for neutralizing odors – I love diffusing this for a clean home smell. I also like to use Purification Oil to make a clean home scented spray (think of it as a natural Febreze, minus the harmful toxic chemicals 😉 )
Young Living’s Description: “Purification® essential oil blend is a combination of Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Myrtle, Rosemary, and Tea Tree that is formulated for diffusing to neutralize and cleanse your home and work environment. It is also soothing to your skin for everyday irritations.”
7. Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Young Living has a variety of Eucalyptus Oils, but Eucalyptus Globulous Essential Oil is probably my favorite. I use this a lot, especially in the winter and spring months when my nose and lungs feel like a seasonal punching bag. A few drops of Eucalyptus Oil on a washrag or towel in a hot shower = a World Wonder.
Young Living’s Description: “Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil contains eucalyptol, which creates a refreshing breathing experience when inhaled and provides an invigorating sensation on the skin when applied topically.*”
8. Frankincense Essential Oil
Oilers oftentimes lovingly refer to Frankincense Oil as simply “Frank.” Frank is a powerful oil that’s at the heart of MANY of the oil blends. Like most of the oils on this list, it also has a wide range of uses, & is one I always keep on hand. Especially if I want pretty skin & an awakened mind & spirit 😉
Young Living’s Description: “Frankincense has been used in religious rituals for over 3,000 years. It has been known to enhance immunological function, beautify skin, and increase spiritual awareness.”
9. Lavender Essential Oil
This was one of the first oils I became a real fan of. Lavender Oil is TRULY essential, in my opinion (see what I did there?). Not only is it great for a soothing, calming vibe, but it’s also used in many of my favorite YL products.
Young Living’s Description: “Lavender oil is the most universal oil and has a tranquil aroma that is soothing to the senses, as well as to the skin when applied topically. Taken internally, it contains antioxidants, may provide immune support, and can be used to add a floral flavor to your evening tea.*
Lavender is one of the most popular and widely used essential oils that Young Living produces. Learn about it’s rich history and how Lavender’s tranquil aroma is soothing for the senses”
Fun Fact: Young Living’s Lavender lotion is what really opened my eyes to the power of essential oils & essential oils infused products – I use it daily!
10. Lemongrass Essential Oil
Lemongrass Oil smells SO GOOD. Much like Purification, it has a clean, refreshing scent. I love making diffuser recipes with Lemongrass. I also take a few drops of Lemongrass Vitality Oil daily in a clear vegetable gel capsule, along with a few of my other favorite oils.
Young Living’s Description: “Lemongrass essential oil cleanses the air, neutralizes unwanted odors, and enhances massage practices. When taken internally, it provides circulatory and digestive support.*”
About taking Vitality oils internally: All Young Living Vitality oils have been approved by the FDA as supplements for ingestion. No other essential oils company has FDA approval for ingestion of essential oils – something that carries a lot of weight in this industry. The Vitality Oils can be identified easily as they are all in 5 ml bottles with a white label that says “Vitality” underneath the name of the oil (see below).
11. Oregano Essential Oil
Oregano isn’t just a spice you’ve got hanging out in your spice cabinet. Oregano Oil is an MVP oil that I always have at least a few bottles of on-hand. I take Oregano Vitality Oil daily now (in a gel capsule), & it’s been a game changer for me.
If you do a little Google search on the benefits of Oregano, you’ll be surprised at what you find.
Young Living’s Description: “Oregano essential oil is one of the most powerful and versatile antioxidant essential oils. It may help stimulate the immune and digestive systems, strengthen the energy centers of the body, and enhance the flavor of food.*”
12. Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint Oil was one of the first oils I got started with, & continues to be one that I use most often! It’s a staple in many diffuser recipes because of it’s minty fresh scent, & it can be used to flavor foods as well. I use it most in my diffuser, but sometimes I like a kick of Peppermint Vitality Oil in my tea, too.
Young Living’s Description: “Peppermint oil contains menthol for an invigorating aroma and a cooling sensation that soothes fatigued muscles. When taken internally, it promotes healthy bowel function, supports gastrointestinal system comfort, and adds a fresh, minty flavor to foods.*”
13. Vanilla Essential Oil
For the longest time I’d hoped & prayed for Young Living to add Vanilla Oil to their product catalog – and finally my prayers were answered when this gem of an oil came along! Vanilla Oil gets added to MANY of my diffuser recipes, especially in fall & winter when I want a warm & inviting scent in my home.
It’s also a great natural perfume – put a drop on your wrist & rub your wrists together for a chemical free vanilla scent!
Young Living’s Description: “Vanilla has a luxuriously rich, slightly sweet aroma that enhances the experience of virtually any other essential oil when applied topically or enjoyed aromatically.”
14. Breathe Again Essential Oil Roll-On
This is one I keep on my nightstand & use OFTEN!
The EO name is fairly self-explanatory, so all I’ll say is: Do ya like Breathing? Then use this!
Young Living’s Description: “Breathe Again™ Roll-On combines Copaiba, Myrtle, and Peppermint with four different types of Eucalyptus —including Eucalyptus Blue—to create a powerful, invigorating experience. It is the perfect companion for early mornings, long days, and tough workouts—the name says it all.”
15. Deep Relief Essential Oil Roll-On
Holy Moly, this has been my LIFE SAVER – especially since I’m no spring chicken anymore. I keep a couple bottles of this on hand, and use it almost daily. It’s also a favorite of my husband’s too, especially after a physically taxing day at work!
Young Living’s Description: “Deep Relief™ Roll-On is one of Young Living’s most popular blends. It features penetrating essentials oils, including Peppermint, Wintergreen, and Copaiba, and is your perfect companion to soothe fatigued muscles after physical activity.”
16. Release Essential Oil
Honestly, when someone told me to use this oil, I thought: Yeah, right. Like this is going to do what the bottle says.
Color me surprised when using it did exactly what it promised it would do! You can diffuse this, but I usually just put a couple drops of Release on the bottoms of my feet, sit back, & relax, in peace and quiet or with calming music – and whatever is bugging me? Like Elsa, I just let it go!
Young Living’s Description: “Release™ essential oil blend is a combination of 16 essential oils in an olive oil base. It creates a relaxing aroma that facilitates the ability to let go of anything that no longer serves you and promotes harmony and balance when applied topically or diffused.”
17. Stress-Away Essential Oil
This one comes both in a regular oil bottle, and also as a roll-on. But if you’re like me & are no stranger to stress – get the roll-on. Trust me.
It does what it says 😉
Young Living’s Description: “Stress Away™ essential oil blend features Copaiba, Lime, Cedarwood, Vanilla, Ocotea, and Lavender for an exotic aroma used for exactly what the name says and for achieving a happy and positive day.”
18. White Angelica Essential Oil
I’ll keep White Angelica Oil simple for you: want to get rid of / repel bad juju?
Then White Angelica’s for you!
Young Living’s Description: “White Angelica™ essential oil blend is a special formulation of 10 essential oils in a carrier oil that envelopes the body in a nurturning aroma of protection and positivity that nutralizes negative energies and gives you a feeling of wholeness.”
19. Panaway Essential Oil
I keep this in a similar category as the Deep Relief – if you’re doing anything physical, you’re going to want this!
Young Living’s Description: “PanAway® essential oil blend is a combination of Clove, Helichrysum, Peppermint, and Wintergreen, and creates a cooling and soothing sensation when applied to fatigued muscles after physical activity. A must-have for every home.”
20. Abundance Essential Oil
Last, but certainly not lease: Abundance Oil. This blend of oils is perfect for diffusing – especially if you’re ready to attract the life that you want!
Young Living’s Description: “Abundance™ essential oil blend features Orange, Frankincense, Patchouli, Clove, Ginger, Myrrh, Cinnamon Bark, and Black Spruce essential oils, which were used by ancient cultures to attract prosperity and magnify joy and peace.”
